This is a board is meant to last a lifetime, or more, and provides a sentimental item that can be handed down from generation to generation with lots of cherished memories.
The board and checkers are made from contrasting woods to provide the dark and light colors for each opponent. The standard woods that I use are Walnut for the dark squares/checkers and Maple for the light squares/checkers.
